Lighting a haystack.

Murphy's Haystacks are inland from Streaky Bay, SA and the beauty here is that you can camp just to the left of them.

The faces of these were lit by external LED lights from 150m away.

For this to work you need:
Moonless night
Miles from a city (light pollution)
A fast wide lens
Spirit level
Manual focus
Tripod
and lots of carrots (to see in the dark)
